what the hell is this about?

Several friends have embarked on their own P365 journey but as I have no camera nor an eye for photography I've decided to try to complete "a doodle a day" for an entire year. Most will be in my little Derwent A5 sketch book but some could end up being from the corner of some document or scribbled on a newspaper. As the year progresses I will try my hand at inking them as well?

If some of them don't make sense, don't worry, they're probably not meant to. You may notice there will be certain themes along the way and if you know me you'll know why.

I hope you enjoy.

Okay, here goes, every day til I'm 39.

Day #160 - Moon

tonight I finally got around to watching the movie Moon. It was amazing!

I'm upset that I didn't watch it earlier now.

I thought I'd have a go at drawing the Sarang Rover from the movie, it doesn't look too bad but I'm too tired to do anything else.

here's the crazy Glen logic on how I found out about the movie. Years ago my brother gave me the first season of the IT Crowd, I gave it to Grant Lawton to watch, the second season saw the introduction of Matt Berry as the new CEO and our love for his kookiness got Grant to stumble upon a little show called the Mighty Boosh where Matt played Dixon Bainrbridge the crazed Zoo owner who would splice the animals with the workers. This got us thinking about other shows and I stumbled upon the Snuff Box, a skit show with Matt Berry, it was kooky and crazy but a total riot. After watching this there seemed to be no more of Matt Berry anywhere so I sort of gave up for a while, then recently when performing the 'IMDB=Matt Berry' search I stumble upon Moon, so automatically I knew I had to get it, so I did and I sat on it for months, bad me.

incidentally, if you play Scrabble on Facebook, one of those annoying ads that you have to sit through before you can play is for CareerOne, Matt Berry does the voice over.

And Matt's role in Moon consisted of about 2 lines! LOL!

Day #159 - Cyborg girl concept

Tonight I wanted to take a different approach, a lot of nights I rough out and then build up my picture in one pencil, most of the time I erase my construction lines or they get overwritten to the point of not being noticed any more.

I decided to do my three different layers in different colours to see how it would turn out, I'm hoping that you can see the different layers but I'm not sure how it will scan in, the red was my basic mark up for proportioning, the blue was my wireframe build up and the green was the final outline.

It's supposed to be a female cyborg, mid to late teens in age, like a high school girl, old enough to drive but still lives at home.
I don't mind how this turned out but for what I want she looks far too unhuman, oh well, the is merely a concept drawing so it will stay this way.

Day #158 - Zorrooooh

Tomorrow we are off to a BBQ luncheon for Erica's birthday and as I found out on monday, it's fancy dress, I had planned to go as the following things/people but had not had the time to organise the outfit;

Cher - from that video with on the Missouri
Gordon Freeman - main character from Half life
an X Wing Pilot (minus the helmet, actually I would have even given that a try)
Marty McFly (in radiation suit)
Walter Sobchak (John Goodman from the Big Lebowski)

I had planned on finishing one of these up tomorrow morning but when I got home from work this evening Vic and the kids had already been to the local costume shop and bought me something to wear, Mika was so excited to tell me how I am going to be a pirate.

They actually got me a Zorro outfit, well by outfit I mean a black hat, a shirt and a cape all size "one size fits all"

So tomorrow I'll not be dressed as "Zorro" but I'll be dressed as "One Size Fits All My Arse Man"

Day #157 - a difficult challenge

Tonight when I came home I did my normal routine and checked the letterbox. there was 3 letters there, one from Westpac, another from some government department and a blank sealed envelope.

I thought it odd that a blank sealed envelope was in my letterbox and I initially thought it was one of my neighbours complaining about my Volvo (which has been sitting out the front for a year now).

but no, as I came inside I gave the letters to Hawk and he chuckled, then he told me it was from him.

Anyway he proceeded to open it up and he told me it was full of things he'd cut out of pamphlets.

He went through them all saying "I've got something here I want you to draw" he pulled this one out and said, "see, it shows you how to draw Anakin, I want you to draw that for me tonight"

I didn't have the heart to tell him that even with my glasses on it was tough to see this so instead I gave him my standard "no problem mate!"

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, I think it looks a bit like Anakin. I hope he likes it.

Day #156 - 2 days of clichés

For the past 2 days I've heard phrases like;

"your journey to the cloud"

"not quite ready for cloudification" (yes nerds like to make up words)

and every buzz word you could imagine.

But you know what, nothing new was said.

Yes Software as a service really is going to be the future of IT but it's still some way off being the norm.
I think the force that will drive it will be the increase of people wanting to use personal devices in the corporate arena.

It's not important though, the only thing that's important in any business is data and the reluctance to let go of the control of that data is what will hold the progression of the cloud, can you blame them?

anyway, these are little doodles I did today whilst listening to the different seminars and what better place to draw them than the conference guide?

Day #155 - the importance of enunciation

For a while there I thought the future of IT was 'Clown Computing'

if this drawing makes sense then you're a nerd like me, if not, don't worry, you're normal.

Day #154 - the U-ENDER

I figured that if I want to evolve then I need to get a lot better at drawing weaponry.

If you look at anything I've drawn in the past it just doesn't look right? I dunno, maybe it's my subconscious interrupting me because I don't like them?

I've always thought pistols are where the designers really show their mettle, basically they are all the same, providing the same function so why would you opt for one over another? design or function or name? or a little of each?

For me they begin with a cool name, a 45 or a Glock 17 or my fav a Beretta.

I don't know if you could call a pistol pretty? but the Italians sure got it right when they designed the Berettas.

A keen eye will pick up that this one is only an air pistol (non-lethal) maybe that's why I could draw it? it's the Beretta XX-TREME but I renamed it the U-ENDER.

anyway, I'm tired now. going to bed, antibiotics are knocking me around and my throat is sore.

Day #153 - Tank Girl

at about quarter to ten tonight I still had nothing in my head to draw, then I thought of drawing a pimped out Camry wagon but then didn't really have that desire, I eventually fell upon Tank Girl, to be honest I'd never heard of Tank Girl before the Lori Petty movie of the same name, it was probably the coolest adaptation of that time what with Dick Tracy and Batman offering poor attempts, well don't get me started on Batman, dude is just a nerd with a magical tool belt that just happens to have whatever he requires, nothing super about him (except his budget).

I think Tank Girl was one of the first movies for Naomi Watts as well? I prefer her as a nerdy brunette to a blonde Kidman clone.

Anyway, my man Hernandez has just scored one of the most ridiculous headers ever so I'm going to go and watch the rest of the game, maybe Man U can actually win a game???

Day #152 - Dragon training

Today Hawk and I watched the movie "How to train your dragon" and for a Dreamworks animated movie (which are usually crap) I was mildly surprised, it had a very thin storyline but the characters were very likeable and the story was reasonable.

But what I think doesn't matter as I'm not the target audience.

Hawk LOVED IT! he was telling me all about it all the way through, so I decided that I'd go ahead and draw the main characters for him.

I hope it'll be a nice surprise for him.

Oh well, I'm off to bake some cookies I just invented, hopefully they'll turn out, Fluey, if you're listening, Coconut Choc Chip Cookies. If they work then it's over to you mate :)

Day #151 - the Groovie Ghoulies

Earlier today I was reading about Alex Toth (there was a recommended reading link off an Amazon page I was on and the a recommended link off that page to a book about Alex Toth), it instantly made me think of his work, you see Alex Toth worked for Hanna Barberra for about 20 years and once we entered the dark ages of the mid 80s when cartoons lost their innocence and they suddenly needed to have morals and horrible commercialisation within then Alex lost the passion and walked away from the game.

Alex was a true pioneer, in US comic/cartoon history there are only a few iconic people, Stan Lee, Wil Eisner, Tex Avery and Alex Toth.

Toth created the following characters;
Birdman
Green Arrow
the Herculoids
the Super Friends
Spaceghost

apart from these he drew almost all of the character sheets for HB cartoons.

What he is best remembered for though is Dell comics.

How does this link to today's drawing?

I'm not sure but whilst reading some really interesting articles there was a small thumbnail with Wolfie on it. I'd forgotten all about the Groovie Ghoulies, it was an excellent cartoon but obviously this must have been made when LSD was prevalent as it was an extremely colourful cartoon.

From memory it was more a musical cartoon and it also had weird intermission segments.

I think I'm going to go and find some youtube instances.

Day #150 - for Gino

Monkey Magix is a strange show that used to be on ABC at about 6pm every night when I was in 5/6th class, I remember that Gino and I used to be on the phone to each other repeating the words for the entire episode.

It's funny, I don't even know what the show was about but I know that I loved it.

It also had the coolest soundtrack of all as well.

I'd like to watch it again but I'm afraid that it may tarnish my fond memories of Pigsy, Sandy, Monkey and of course Tripitaka.

I know it's lacking detail in this drawing but I really wanted to draw all four because I can't really choose a favourite.

Day #149 - Logo design #1

Today out of the blue I started too doodle a design for a logo for my good mate Ed.

Hell, everybody needs a logo don't they?

I wish it were this easy to make one for myself.

Anyway, Ed, thanks for taking me to the driving range tonight!

Here's some logos for you buddy!

I love ya!

Day #148- how Shazzan should have been

Shazzan, what a cool concept for a cartoon, an all powerful Genie and a flying camel but unfortunately they throw 2 useless kids into the cartoon, those kids would get into all sorts of trouble. I mean, how could you get into trouble with a flying camel and a magic rope?

It would be difficult right?

and then they had these rings to call on the all mighty Shazzan, so they'd call him once an episode and he'd come and get them all out of trouble.

They'd act like it was an absolute last resort to call on Shazzan but when he'd come he'd never be angry, he'd just whip on in and fix everything then leave.

And what would this brother and sister do as thanks? just get back into trouble.

I know if I had those rings I'd be using them all the time!

Hey Shazzan, I'm late for work, can you just blink me there? Hey Shazz-buddy, I need a haircut, can you hook me up? Shazzan, I need to pay the mortgage, a little help?

Day #147- when bobcats attack

okay I swear this is a true story.

Last Friday night I arrived home late, I had to take mum to Bunnings and Vic asked me to get dinner on the way home so Pizza was the order for the day. As I turned into our street I noticed a Sydney Water truck in the front yard of my neighbour's house and there was a workman with portable lighting up digging away into the corner of the yard. My neighbours water main had been broken at about 10am (by now it was 8pm) and water had flooded down the side of her house but this guy had the water well and truly under control so I thought nothing of it. Vic came out of the house and said to me "Oh poor Sophie (our neighbour)" and I thought, oh it's just water it ain't so bad? then Vic told me to look at her front yard.

OH MY GOD!! her entire lawn was gone!

Basically what had happened was at about 9am a bobcat turned up and dug up her front yard removing every blade of grass, then he backed over her water main causing it to burst and flood her yard, then (we're assuming) he rang his boss asking what he should do about it at which time his boss told him he was at the wrong address and to leg it.

So, poor ol Sophie was left with a dirt/mud bowl for a front yard and no water, plus I'm guessing a whopping water bill for all the water.

The police told her that they'd get there when they could be bothered but how the hell would you catch the perpetrator(s)?

Would that be covered in your insurance policy? and what about the flood damage?

Anyway I had to whip this one out quickly tonight as basketball is at 10:15 and I'm tired as hell from my ride yesterday, no way on earth will I be able to draw after ball.

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Day #146 - General Grievous

I'm very tired today after my big ride but I have to stay true to my commitment and bang out a drawing, as I was putting Hawk to bed I asked if I could borrow his Star Wars book, he asked why and I told him that I think I'll just draw something from Star Wars tonight (thinking it would be nice and easy)

As I was walking out of his bedroom he asked me if I could draw him General Grievous, I quickly snapped a reply of "of course mate, anything for you".

I then got back to the loungeroom and realised that there is nothing general about Grievous, he picked me the only character with heaps of detail, I'm too tired to do anything more so I drew his head.

I hope he likes it.

Day #145 - is it the shoes?

as I have to go to bed early so I can get up and destroy myself in the morning I decided to just do a quick one tonight.

NBA Jam has just be released, well an updated version for the Wii/PS3/Xbox360.

It hasn't released in Oz just yet but should be available within the next two weeks.

This game is a classic, full of hidden characters.

So, of course I just drew a poor rendition of myself as a hidden character.

Day #144 - Shake it baby!

I was reading on News.com.au today about some guys that have just received the green light from 3D Realms to redo Duke Nukem 3D, man that was seriously one of the best games ever!
It also has the greatest lines/catch cries of any game I think, that and NBA Jam.

So I thought that I must draw Duke, so...

this is my Duke.

I ran out of time to do anything more with him.

I think it looks okay though.

Day #143 - Random Ride on Robot

Today I had to "test" one of the printers at work, basically it wouldn't print a huge PDF document, it would spool forever and then crash, anyway, Ross and I figured out what was causing it but to test it out I used a PDF of a book on robots.

So I thought I'd use the inspiration of that to work on a new design for a ride on robot.

The H5 mkII allows for a centrally located pilot to operate the H5 mkII as if it were an extension of it's own body.

I think that I'll only have to draw about 20 designs of this before I settle on the final. (for me to know).

Day #142 - Aang

I finally got around to watching the last airbender, I thought that it wasn't that bad?

they probably should have cast an Asian boy to play Aang though as the little white kid looked a bit weird.

It's obviously made to be part of a trilogy so i thought part 1 set the stage nicely.

I was too tired to post this last night so i thought I'd write it this morning instead.
I don't feel like being verbose this morning so I'll just leave it here.

Day #141 - Tattoo design #1

For a long time now (well, since Mika was born) I've been thinking about getting a tattoo with the kids names but I thought that was too cliché (yes I'm aware that tatts are pretty cliché themselves nowadays) but I've been thinking about what to do.

Tonight it clicked, maybe because I was sitting here listening to Girl Talk (ta Rossco!), crazy ass mashups.

Hawk is an easy option but Mika was a little tougher (although it seems ridiculously obvious now) and I was thinking of how to put them together or which style to draw them in.

I think I really like this design though and to me it will always mean my kids.

Mika is a Japanese girl's name meaning New Moon so I think this works well?

Any opinions? could I do it differently?

I also love that the Hawk is white because Hawk himself is so white that he's almost transparent, add to that that he's very protective of his little sister and this picture just screams even more to me that my kids are there.

I wonder if Vic will feel the same way? she doesn't read this blog so I'll have to show it to her but she probably won't understand it the same way I do, then again, she'll probably run out and get inked herself! HAHAHA AS IF!!!

Day #140 - Annoying Smurfs

Okay, I didn't really feel like drawing tonight so I just knocked this one out.

These are the Smurfs that really annoy me.

Charity Smurf - this particular smurf fakes friendship in order to sign you up to a charity for commission.

Professional Beggar Smurf - Cardboard sign, sullen look and generally a stack of books. Always in the way.

Herpes Smurf - I just wanted to draw this for fun, oh, Herpes Smurf's favourite line. "Oh, did you know that most people have Herpes but it just doesn't show"

Okay, off to bed now that I've probably offended a whole heap of people.

Day #139 - Good times

Back when we were skating all those years ago, people that we skated with were getting sponsored and when competitions came along they would be in the Team.

So, Chris Tudor, Bernie Edmonds and myself invented Team Nosferatu, it was our own little secret team, not that it meant anything apart from a special bond between 3 skaters.

It consisted simply of a picture of a Bat and the words Team Nosferatu, written on our boards or T-Shirts or anywhere else we could find, if anyone asked what it meant we just said "well, that's who we skate for", it was our little joke.

We all had our own bats and my favourite was the one I've coloured in here but I could have any number of different types.

This one tonight is for me and Bernie and Chris.

The last time I saw Chris he was riding the mini ramp at Fairfield, it was about 16 or 17 years ago and he was riding it as if it was flat ground, we'd all stopped skating years before but he just kept going and he was amazing, by then he was easily the best mini ramp rider I've ever seen.
I hope he's doing well.

I know that Bernie is doing much better today (he posted it).

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since those days but I still think of them as if they were yesterday and those two guys I will always think of as friends.

Day #138 - Leonardo

Hawk watched 3 TMNT movies back to back today, I'm not sure how he even knew about them but when I asked him if he wanted to watch the first movie he said "YEAH! I love the Teenage Mutant Injure Turtles"

I still can't believe he watched all 3 back to back, I mean this is a kid that struggles to sit through a normal cartoon show and it only goes for about 20 minutes.

So I asked him which one he liked the best and he said the one with the swords.

I'm just that little bit too old to have grown up with the turtles so I don't know too much about them so I had to look them up.

I hope this will be a nice surprise for Hawkie when he wakes up.

Day #137 - Sonic and Dr Eggman

This morning I woke with a mind splitting headache and my eyes felt like they were burning and falling out of my skull. I took some Nurofen, messaged work and passed out till 2:30pm.
When I awoke I still had a thumping headache and then I realised it was from massive congestion in my head, so I took some Codral. I later took some more Nurofen which has turned my mind to jelly. I was thinking about what to draw and it hurt to just think, Hawk was sitting there playing Sonic Unleashed on the Wii so I told him that I was going to draw Dr Eggman, He simply said "but he's the baddie!", I told him that I knew and he still didn't look pleased, so I said that I'd draw Sonic as well, he was happy with that.

So here tonight is my no thinking drawing of Sonic and Dr Eggman. I've drawn so much blue lately that midway through this my mechanical pencil imploded. I was a little bit worried because I didn't have another so I went and borrowed Hawk's, I hope he won't mind. Anyway, I feel numb in the head and must be waffling on about codshit so I'll leave it here and go back to bed.

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Day #136 - Inspector Gadget

I asked Frank if there were something else that he wanted me to draw, he said Inspector Gadget, I thought, okay that's pretty simple.

he also said to do the Claw, but then I told him that we never see his face?

Anyway I sat here tonight and looked up some reference pics and thought to myself that I'd be able to get him done in about 5 minutes, so.......

I drew him how I'd like to see him, completely functional and bad ass.

It was fun to do and see Frank, I included the Claw :)

Day #135 - Indy

I showed Hawk my picture from last night (Hosoi) and he asked me, "is that a robot?" I had to explain to him no it was a picture of the person you were nearly named after but Hawk Hosoi Gonz Warton would have been too much for me to get away with :)

He then asked me what I was drawing tonight and I told him XXXXXXXXX (keeping that idea for another night)

He said, can you draw Indian Jones for me? so I said, sure little buddy! but he insisted that I didn't draw the Lego one and it needed to be an action shot.

Well, this is as good as I could muster tonight, plus I need to get on my bike, got a 50km ride in 11 days and I'm far from ready for it.

Day #134 - Happy Birthday Holmes!

today is the birthday of the most dynamic skateboarder ever.

during the 1980s skateboarding was hitting it's second peak and at this time there were only ever 2 names at the top of podium, it was either Tony Hawk or Christian Hosoi.

Where Hawk would rely on impossible technical tricks Hosoi would be flying 15 feet out doing huge methods, japans, judos, madonnas or his signature Christ air.
And he did it with most amazing style and flair.
Most skaters would do a McTwist (an inverted 540 degree spin) about 3 feet out, Christian would rip them 10ft out, imagine that, he'd be 10ft out of a 12ft ramp performing an inverted 540 degree turn and he did this in 1988!

There were 2 clear factions, those who loved the technical and those who loved the flair, I simply loved them both.

There is an amazing documentary called "Rising Son: The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi" which gives you an insight behind the scenes of simply the most talented skateboarder of all time and perfectly documents his life which is almost impossible to believe, he was basically the David Beckham of skateboarding 20 years earlier.

Hosoi just made everything seem so easy due to his fluid style, even when he'd finish a run he'd fly out the top of the ramp and back onto the platform.

Just as the skateboarding world came back to forefront with the advent of the X Games, Christian was doing meth in Tokyo and denied the invite. Hawk went on to become a superstar and a household name and Christian ended up in prison.

Whilst in prison he found religion and was released on parole early.

thankfully he's clean and skating again, he turns 43 today but I bet he still blazes!

Happy Birthday Hosoi!

Day #133 - the Iron Giant

Another suggestion from Frank Arrigo. (sorry, I'm too tired to shade it)

There's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki, so much so I bought his semi auto-biography, it was translated into English and was originally written in 1996 so it doesn't include the Disney repackaged films he's made (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle & Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea). So I started reading this and surprisingly the forward was written by John Lasseter, whom is also one of my heroes, he directed a few films that you may have heard of, Toy Story 1&2, A Bug's life and Cars but not the Incredibles.

This is what I couldn't understand, as he was/is Pixar's main man (well, next to Steve Jobs that is) why didn't he direct one of their coolest movies.

The Incredibles was released in 2004.

So who did he entrust this too? well a little known guy called Brad Bird, what had Brad Bird done I thought? well it turned out that he directed a couple (2) of Simpsons episodes back in the early 90s and 1 episode of Amazing Stories in the late 80s. Apart from that the only thing he'd made was a feature length cartoon called "the Iron Giant" in 1999.

Obviously I had to check out this film.

Oh, how glad was I that I did, the Iron Giant is a beautiful movie about a young boy who befriends an alien robot that the government wants to destroy and the young 9 year old Hogarth tries to hide this robot in a junkyard.

After watching it you can understand why the Pixar reigns were handed to him for the Incredibles.

It's rare that a cartoon about a robot not made in Japan receives a cult following but this movie does it.

I highly recommend that you watch it.

Day #132 - Gigantor

This picture came about after a conversation with my boss Frank Arrigo on Friday afternoon, Frank and I share a common interest in a lot of things and when we were discussing robots he dropped Gigantor on me. Something sunk in, it was a name that I have heard 1000s of times yet I was unfamiliar with it.
The first time I heard Gigantor was through Chris Wheeler, it was his email address (minus the i of course, yes I have a freaky memory Wheels), I think that was 1997 and I think it was an AOL email account? that's not important though. what is important is how did this wonderful cartoon elude me for so long?

So today I went looking and guess what, even Gigantor himself looked familar, why? simple, there seems to be 2 robots that spawned all of the Anime robots after them, call them the Adam and Eve of Anime if you want but know that they are simply Astro Boy and Gigantor, all of the realistic child like robots have tried to emulate Astro Boy and the rest have borrowed their styling from Gigantor, the Miyazaki robots in Laputa are a perfect example as well as the Iron Giant.

I'm now going to get my hands on the Gigantor series to watch it, it's very very cool, even the remakes are cool.

There are a number of reasons why I love Japan and the Japanese people and this is one of them, check this out (yes it's real, scroll to the bottom) it's in Kobe http://kaijuart.com/2009/09/25/a-gigantor-gigantor-the-kobe-project/

Interesting fact is that the Japanese name for Gigantor is Tetsujin 28-go

Day #131 - Roger Roger

How many people can safely say that their all-time favourite movie was the first that they ever saw at a cinema? most couldn't even remember their first.
Well I do, it was 1977 I was 5 years old and the movie was Star Wars.
The movie had a profound affect on me and the original trilogy became the only movies that mattered, well, until Back to the future came along.

My most prized possessions when I was young were my Star Wars toys and I remember the best of all was Mum found us (Mark and I shared a room in our little 2 bedroom house at Wenty) Star Wars wallpaper so you could imagine how when trying to fall asleep I would look up at my wallpaper and dream of being Luke Skywalker, little did I know that I'd end up like Chewbacca.

Mark and I would try to make Star Wars ships out of our Lego and he was pretty creative and would make some awesome looking ships.

Gino had an AT-AT which I was awesome (I hope he still has it) and we'd often fantasize about the trilogy and would spend a lot of lunchtimes playing with our action figures, Mick Powe was a Star Wars nut too and I remember he went and saw Jedi in the first days and recited the entire movie to us the next day (he did give away the Leia disguised bit but that didn't matter).

Jedi was released in 1983 so for a mad Star Wars fan when I'd heard there was going to be another trilogy I was super excited. 16 years later the Phantom Menace opened, Lester and I went and saw it opening day at Chatswood, my hair stood on end the entire time.

I loved the movie although it's not the same as the original trilogy for me it was just as special. Plenty of people bagged this movie and a lot of it was fair too, I mean, does anybody like Jar Jar binks? nor see the need for him?

For me though, the major triumph was the Battle Droids, they stole the show.

I still remember the line "hmmm, that does not compute, you're under arrest".

Very rarely does CG outshine actors but in this movie it did, actually, thinking about it now, the droids are the best actors through all 6!

Day #130 - they knew it was wrong but it felt oh so right

When I was about 6 or 7 my father had this fascination with Dr Who, I think from memory it was on ABC every night straight after the Channel 9 news with Brian Henderson.

Unlike these days, very very few people had more than one TV sets. This meant that whatever Dad wanted to watch we watched so every night I'd sit there and watch Dr Who.

You might think that this was cool, well, it was always the Dr, his assistant with no weapons up against some evil force and I was only 6 or 7 so every single one of these evil forces scared the absolute shit out of me. Oh my god, the Cybermen, the Daleks, these pudgy faced monsters that live in mine shafts, they all scared me half to death but I'd still sit there and watch, especially when Tom Baker was the Doctor.

Tom was by far my favourite Doctor, not because of his trench-coat or his enormously long scarf but because he had K-9, K-9 was his dog, not any normal dog either, he was a weaponised robot dog! Hooray I'd think, now those monsters would be beaten by this little robot dog. As I was so young I didn't really understand the dialog but I figured out 3 things, the Doctor loved jelly babies, his assistant was a hot chick (most of the time) and the British Army wasn't worth 2 farts in a paper bag.

I think the Daleks were my most hated, that mechanical sounding EXTERMINATE still chills my blood to this day.

I know fans of Doctor Who will think this picture is sacrilegious robot porn but I don't care, I thought it was a funny idea.

Orbital's redux of the themesong is still one of my favourite tracks.
